Summary

This assignment is a 1-year non-reimbursable assignment. This is not a virtual assignment; although, telework may be available on a reoccurring basis at the discretion of management.

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) within the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Responsibilities

  • The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Special Assistant to the Chief Medical Officer and be responsible for the management and implementation of administrative, management and program planning activities, policy research and other duties that directly impact OCMO.
  • Performs advisory, planning and general administrative and scheduling support for the executive staff, including written policy correspondence that includes memoranda, briefings, and responses to official medical tasks.
  • Coordinates all types of communication to the direction of the organization's highest level executives.
  • Manages senior executive staff schedules, keeping them informed and aware in a fast paced, competing priority type of environment.
  • Provides confidential support for and advice to the senior executive staff within the OCMO.
  • Additional duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications required:
  • Knowledge of administrative management matters, actions, processes, principles, practices, techniques, and methods to serve as a principal management advisor.
  • Knowledge of various qualitative and/or quantitative methods, concepts, regulations and policies, and other areas of mission support to carry out assigned duties.
  • Knowledge of administrative concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of management systems/office automation applications, principles, and practices.
  • Skilled in work flow methods and procedures, and determine work to be accomplished to set priorities.
  • Skilled in effective oral and written communication.

    If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.

    Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:
  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
    • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
    • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
    • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete 12 hours of professional development using Skillsoft courses, videos, and books in conjunction with the established assignment objectives for the JDA.
  • Attend each of the DHS Joint Duty Program Director's quarterly webinars (1 hour per quarter).

    You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
