Responsibilities

1. Serves as the JAIC's Technical Expert for the design, development, and implementation of National and DoD artificial intelligence mission initiatives.

2. Leverages best practices from industry and academia to inform the JAIC's selection, design, and execution of Al-focused initiatives and projects that leverage JAIC services, proliferate best practices among user communities of practice and serve to scale enterprise Al-solutions to operational users internal and external to the Department.

3. Serves as a Technical Advisor for the Mission Initiative Chiefs to build a strategic engagement plans for the delivery of JAIC advisory and other services. Provides technical guidance for JAIC capability delivery and assessment teams to discover AI product requirements through continuous user engagement and accelerate implementation of AI technologies through targeted delivery of JAIC services.

5. Provides technical recommendations for enhancing the JAIC's Enterprise-wide initiatives and projects, to ensure the adoption of artificial intelligence across the Department. Advises Mission Initiative Chiefs on how to best execute and manage the artificial intelligence and machine learning roadmaps that can be shared internally across DoD and externally with allies, partners, industry, and academia.

6. Applies extensive knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science concepts, methodology, techniques, and technologies to enhance the design of existing technical project specifications for the deployment for artificial intelligence mission initiatives.

7. Provides consultation and advisement on the development, engineering, and integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning-base initiatives; interprets and advises on studies, analyses and evaluations of the information systems plans, programs, projects, networks, policies, and procedures.

8. Provides technical recommendations to enhance the adoption of a new technological capabilities across multiple organizations internal and external to the Department.

9. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the JAIC Deputy Director and Directorate Director.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirements:

For the AD-801 and AD-854 Professional Engineering Series:
Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statistics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
- Professional registration
- Written Test
- Specified academic courses
- Related curriculum - With this criteria, applicants also need verification of employment from a supervisor stating you have performed professional engineering duties.

For the AD-1515 Operations Research Series:
Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

For the AD-1529 Computer Science Series:
Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For the AD-1550 Computer Science Series:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must submit written statements (narrative format), in addition to your resume, of accomplishments that would satisfy the technical qualifications. You must address each technical qualification separately. Please limit your written statements up to 1 page per technical qualification. Specify which TQs you are addressing in your responses:

TQ 1: Commercial industry experience in developing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions for the Federal government; a state or local government; or a large corporation.

TQ 2: Extensive knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science concepts, methodology, techniques, and technologies.

TQ 3: Significant experience working on complex artificial intelligence and machine learning projects, as the Lead Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Scientist or Engineer.

TQ 4: Experience defining and developing a new artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, technologies, and tools.

TQ 5: Extensive knowledge of management concepts, principles, methods and practices as well as a full range of product management and engineering software development activities starting from Concept and Exploration, and continues through development, production, and completion of initial fielding of the system/equipment items, and transition to another program office for sustainment and operations as specifically related to artificial intelligence and machine learning enabled solutions.

TQ 6: An exceptionally strong understanding of relevant Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning developments in industry, academia, government, with our allies and partners, and with our adversaries. Ability to apply this understanding to inform DoD artificial intelligence mission roadmaps and key decisions.
