Frederick Food Security Network Manager

(FREDE01770)

Under the general direction of the Director of the Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies, the Frederick Food Security Network (FFSN) Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the FFSN.  The FFSN is an innovative, college-community partnership with many local partners that increases the community capability to address nutrition and food security in the City of Frederick. In 2020, the network of FFSN gardens (6 gardens and 3 greenhouses) produced 6,238 pounds of produce which were distributed to 847 families residing in food deserts. Additionally, the FFSN plays a role in the Food Systems focus area of the Sustainability Major at Hood and provides students with hands-on experiential learning. It will likely also interface with the Public Health and Nutrition programs in the near future.

Master’s degree in Food Systems Science, Nutrition (or a related field) and experience in programmatic management at a college or other non-profit with a similar mission of hands-on experiential learning is required.  Selected knowledge/experience in the workings of community food system operations, sustainable food systems, urban gardening methods, or nutrition is strongly preferred. Experience with construction or building projects is also preferred. Basic gardening knowledge is a must.
