Control Design Engineer

Do you have experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or the Google Cloud Platform (GCP)? Possess an innate desire to ensure the secure configuration of applications and services operating in the Cloud? If so, then this opportunity might be for you.

Capital One is looking for Control Design Engineers to ensure that enterprise cloud security controls are designed effectively across a range of technologies. This role will be responsible for translating security requirements (e.g., all S3 objects must be encrypted) into specifications defining the technologies to use at the enterprise level to drive compliance (e.g., IAM policy, Cloud Custodian policy, AWS Config, etc.). Control Design Engineers must also take into account how these controls may impact development teams to ensure security objectives are met while balancing impact to operations.

Candidates for this role should have experience with cloud-based platforms, such as AWS. Candidates should be passionate about cybersecurity with an eye for continuous improvement and empathy for development teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Create and update technical specifications for cloud controls
  • Research security issues to understand risks and operational impacts, and propose control implementation options accordingly
  • Identify opportunities to re-architect or improve existing controls as new security technology becomes available
  • Define steps required for application teams to comply with cloud controls
  • Coordinate with control implementation teams to resolve any implementation issues
  • Perform peer reviews for work completed by other team members

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Security, Engineering or Mathematics
  • At least 8 years of experience with engineering, information technology, or software development
  • At least 3 years of experience with cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • At least 3 years of experience with cybersecurity concepts such as security architecture, cloud security, and application security


Preferred Qualifications:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate certification or similar
  • Security certification such as CISSP, CCSP, or AWS Certified Security Specialty
  • 3+ years of experience architecting applications for the AWS cloud
  • Experience with more than one cloud service provider, such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
