Financial Crimes Risk Management, Principal Risk Specialist - Commercial Bank (New York City, Melville, Richmond, McLean)

As a Commercial Risk Principal Risk Specialist on the Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM) team, which helps Commercial businesses manage both AML and Fraud risk, you will be responsible for working with business partners to develop and implement innovative strategy solutions to fight money laundering and strengthen the end to end "Know Your Customer (KYC)" processes. FCRM and Commercial Risk associates collaborate across the division, including with other Line of Business first line teams, and second and third line partners, to develop and implement well-managed risk practices and establish defenses against these risks.

This role will focus on AML risk management activities, including acting as a Risk Advisor for the Commercial Know Your Customer (cKYC) Team, which plays a key role in Commercial's KYC Process. This associate will be responsible for providing guidance to the Line of Business to ensure that they are executing their processes in accordance with the organizational expectations and mandated KYC regulations. You will provide risk guidance on second line interactions, including issue and event management, and corresponding remediation activities. In this role, you will apply problem solving, communication, and influencing skills to provide advice, as well as lead and manage initiatives to improve our risk management processes in the cKYC space.

In addition to acting as a Risk Advisor to the cKYC Team, this role will also be responsible for day to day AML governance activities to assist with process improvement and AML risk management across the end to end KYC process. This role will require AML knowledge to perform various tasks such as reporting, governance, execution, and processing of AML and Risk initiatives to deliver business efficiency while driving results. The ideal candidate is strategically focused and curious, and will leverage research and analytics to assist in identifying and mitigating suspicious activity, and assisting with the building of the roadmap for our AML risk management program.

Effective communication and reporting to all levels, building partnerships with multiple stakeholders across the lines of defense, and adapting to and managing change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are default essentials for this role.

The Person

We are seeking an individual who has exceptional verbal and written communication with both external and internal customers with the eagerness and willingness to understand Commercial Banking and AML/ Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. The candidate should have the ability to engage in an interactive dialogue with stakeholders through active listening and approach problems logically and with good judgment to ensure the appropriate outcome. The ideal candidate will draw on past experience to help solve problems and build, define and execute on our future state roadmap.

Responsibilities
  • Lead large and complex financial crimes risk management initiatives and support metrics and reporting for this area in the Commercial Bank
  • Lead and oversee the implementation and execution of various work streams to improve the overall AML risk profile of the Commercial Bank
  • Innovate and enhance processes and controls in the AML space
    • Specifically supporting the cKYC Team and their control environment
  • Champion specific AML / cKYC issues and drive to conclusion by partnering with stakeholders to ensure proper remediation
  • Manage Issues and Events, including managing leadership expectations while coordinating timely remediation efforts across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Assist in regulation applicability assessments and corresponding control coverage assessments / mapping
  • Co-Lead various Risk Assessments for the cKYC Team, including Process Level Assessments (PLAs), Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs), Critical Business Process (CBP) Analysis, and participate in ongoing control assessments
  • Support Commercial Bank AML- related Audits and Exams
  • Develop key metrics and indicators to demonstrate the effectiveness of our risk management programs

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in financial services


Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated AML / KYC experience
  • At least 3 years of experience with Process or Project management or consulting
  • At least 3 years of risk management background in traditional or business banking
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex business intent with Business, Operations, and Tech partners
