Temporary Enrichment & Fitness Instructor
Overview
In pursuit of service excellence the Enrichment and Fitness Instructor provides youth, adult, and senior leisure classes at various recreation centers through the City of Alexandria. In this role, you will have the opportunity to ensure that the goals are met to provide a safe, fun, structured and engaging atmosphere for all our customers. Enthusiasm, flexibility and excellent communication skills are needed to be successful in this position.

What You Should Bring
Each member of our team is accountable for the outstanding delivery of services to the community. You will work to meet the needs of our community. You will have the support of and work under the direction of the Fee Classes and Camps Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Manager II The hours will vary Sunday- Saturday 6:00am- 9:00pm with some Special Events scheduled throughout the year. You will have knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Aerobic Exercise
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Dance
  • Educational
  • Health and Wellness
  • Martial Arts
  • Music
  • Sports
  • STEM
  • Summer/ Winter/ Spring Break Camps
  • Tai Chi
  • Yoga/ Pilates
The Opportunity
  • Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time.
  • Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises, and teaches appropriate methods
  • Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
  • Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
  • Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
  • Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
  • Performs related duties as required.

The mission of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is to enrich the City of Alexandria by creating meaningful experiences through public spaces, cultural activities, and programming. The Department’s vision is to improve the well-being of every person in our community by connecting them to each other and their environment. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 155 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience as a Recreation Leader II, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training, valid driver's license issued by state of residence. Small Pool Manager: possession of a valid Red Cross or comparable Senior Life Saving and Swimming Pool Operator's Certificate. Assistant Pool Manager: (Large Pool) same as for a Small Pool Manager, plus two years swimming pool experience, and the ability to perform routine maintenance/repair work on pool equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; three years of experience in your field of instruction, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of valid a First Aid and CPR certifications.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal records background check and drug screening prior to employment.
