Manager of Environmental Graphics and Branding

But we're not sitting around waiting for competitors to catch up. We're finding ways to be more innovative, more empathetic and more impactful-and we're looking for a visionary manager of Environmental Graphics and Branding to help us.
The Role:
As the Manager of Environmental Graphics and Branding at Capital One, you'll drive the holistic visual branding storytelling of the Capital One story for our cafes and branches, and collaborate with the Design & Development team and Construction Retail and product partners throughout the process. Your work will delight, inspire and empower consumers-with a direct impact on the company's bottom line. This role reports into the Director of Visual Merchandising & Branding. You will develop creative solutions and standards for graphics, visual storytelling, product activations, develop concept sketches and mock ups. You will manage the creative development up to engineering and development handoff. As we develop a test and learn approach on Visual Merchandising, we will need a versatile environmental graphic designer who can do quick mock up studies to help inform direction, guide agencies and update templates to reflect our branding direction. As our aesthetic for Visual Merchandising becomes more refined, we need a skilled graphic designer who can articulate and translate this in our graphics and Branding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive creative concepting and executional direction for environmental graphics, packaging, and Visual Merchandising graphic design including engagement with design consultancies
- Collaborate with the core team to define the goal, objectives, and project scope for Branding and graphics (physical signage, wayfinding, ranging from Vis Merch takeaways, Vis Merch environmental signage, packaging, window clings, Merch kits etc Define and drive the tone and materiality directions
- Graphic design concepting and mock ups. Support development of Visual Design strategy.
- Manage agencies on deliverables and iterations. Ground agencies on intent and what success looks like.
- Develop and guide flexible branding systems for our physical spaces
- Partner closely with the Design & Development team and Construction Retail to understand constraints and needs.
- Develop briefs for Branding and Graphic work
- Work with Enterprise Supplier Management to create SOW for agency support
- Lead meeting discussions and presentations around Branding with internal leadership.
The Person:
We're looking for someone with a sharp eye for retail design and innovation, a passion for building brands and delighting customers, is skilled at creating visual experiences and has a pulse on emerging visual digital experiences. We're looking for someone with a strategic mind who can create approaches that foster alignment with stakeholders, drive momentum to delivery and translate this into action and results. Here are just a few qualities we seek in a candidate:
- Experience in visual merchandising and graphic design in a retail environment
- Have a strong understanding of environmental graphic design and holistic branded experiences that include analog approaches as well as engaging digital interactions.
- Strong understanding of materials and technique aspects to environmental signage and graphics.
- Experience developing strategy for Branding identity systems, style guides, and playbooks.
- Ability to drive work with various partners and create alignment
- Strong experience designing, developing, and managing project plans in a complex and dynamic environment with a retail, corporate or agency background.
- Excellent project management skills and brand building experience-you know how to prioritize work and resources to bring a brand to life.
- Experience managing multiple vendors and outside contractors
- Familiar with human-centered design and applying insights from user research to elevate concept direction. Skilled at rapid prototyping and visual mock ups. A get-it-done ethos-you have the energy and willingness to roll-up your sleeves, and a professional agility that equips you to easily deal with the rapidly changing dynamics of the industry and the marketplace.
- Exceptional communication skills-you know how to get people onboard with and aligned around a shared vision, from concept to delivery. Can translate design & aesthetic language into more relatable language depending on the audience.
- Confidence in presenting and selling ideas to senior leadership
- Proven ability to influence, collaborate and build strong relationships at all levels--and to lead and inspire.
- Entrepreneurial spirit --you're excited by the challenge to manage and collaborate with the team and grow the brand
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Military experience
- At least 5 years of experience in environmental graphic design and retail store design for a company with a national brand presence
- At least 2 years of experience developing strategy for Branding identity systems, style guides, and playbooks.
- At least 2 years of experience using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Architecture, Design, Interior Design, or Industrial Design,
- Graphic Design or Art Direction experience in a progressive retail environment or design agency
- Knowledge of BlueBeam
