Under general direction of the Deputy Director for Medical Services, the part-time Physician provides medical oversight and medical care to clients seeking services in one of the following disciplines: clinical services in Health Department clinics, maternal childcare, long term care, and/or community health. Consults and provides medical guidance to Public Health Nurses as necessary in areas of immunization, refugee and international travel program, tuberculosis, and communicable diseases. Participates in the Infant Development Clinic (IDC) providing for infant examination, evaluation, and recommendations for infant and their families as part of the IDC Team. Plans, implements and oversees services for health promotion, and community/population health. Additionally, acts as a policy analyst/advisor in the clinics; independently plans, manages, and/or evaluates public health program(s), projects, and/or study activities.

Note: Salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience.
This is a non-merit G-Status temporary position. Cannot exceed 900 hours per calendar year. Appointee is not eligible for benefits and does not earn paid leave or holiday pay.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and possession of a medical degree approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Licensed at time of appointment to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Board Certified Physician with Virginia license; preference to Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics specialty. Experience in community health or public health highly desired. Excellent customer service skills; ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team and with community partners. Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with customers and colleagues. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively and clearly with diverse populations.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screening, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, job entails walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching and bending; uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Generally works in a clinical/office environment, yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical clinical/office setting. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
