Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO), Front Office.

As a Special Assistant, GS-0301-13, you will be responsible for conducting special assignments on a wide range of significant management and operating issues.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the Group's special program reviews, studies, evaluations, and follow-up of projects to ensure goals, objectives, and deadlines are understood and met.
  • Participate with management and CCIIO senior staff in the qualitative review and assessment and improvement of management programs, policies, and projects determined to be of high priority.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies and reviews new policy and legislative initiatives for potential impact on CCIIO.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of program briefings to ensure awareness of all such matters.
  • Attend meetings and conferences with management and serves as a source of background data on the basis of research and comprehensive studies performed in preparation for the meetings and conferences.

In order to qualify for the GS-13 , you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
(1) Evaluating management policies or projects to recommend improvements to achieve an organization's goal;
(2) Evaluating the effectiveness of existing or new policies for potential impact on program operations; and
(3) Drafting project plans, timelines or other guidance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.
