OrthoVirginia, Virginia's largest provider of expert orthopedic and therapy care, is currently seeking a PRN, experienced Sterile Processing Technician to join our team in Herndon! Position Summary The Sterile Processing Technician will perform decontamination, sterilization, and processing of supplies and equipment used during orthopaedic surgical procedures which requires the use of state-of-the-art sterile processing methods and strict adherence to established organizational policies and procedures. Also, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining inventory levels of equipment and instruments used during surgeries and other medical procedures. Primary Functions & Accountabilities Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures.Responsible for the decontamination and sterilization of all medical equipment, surgical instrumentation & operating room case carts.Cleans each item according to manufacturers' instructions.Correctly assembles, adjusts and examines all equipment used during surgeries or other medical procedures.Verifies that each item is in good working condition; lubricates items when needed and inspects instruments under a microscope for damage and defects.Transports sterilized equipment to operating or examining room.Sorts and arranges items into correct trays and wraps trays and individual items according to Facility policy. Prepares trays with items according to scheduled procedures.Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and other equipment for processing items.Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.Checks indicators for proper functioning.Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to Facility policy.Maintains availability of supplies for recording continuity during the sterilization process.Cleans sterilizers according to Facility policy.Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the FacilityChecks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessary.Places items in correct location.Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area.Maintains and updates the instrument tray inventory list.Maintains current information regarding routine preference cards.Other duties as assigned Position Requirements High school diploma or equivalent CST certification preferred Two years previous sterilization experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Excellent customer service skillsKnowledge and demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within sterile processingAbility to respond effectively to emergencies, actual events or drillsAbility to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee informationProfessional demeanor Physical Demands Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position
