Summary

This is a bargaining unit position.
This is not a drug testing designated position (TDP).

This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Office of Field Operations - Region III in Richmond, VA. Business development is defined as assessing the needs of firms and identifying suitable business development and capacity building opportunities in government contracting. As a BDS you will be encompassed in an a developmental capacity to gain exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for activities authorized under Section 8(a) and 7(j) of the Small Business Act; intended to provide business development assistance to firms.
  • Represents the SBA at a variety of public functions through outreach/presentations/trainings in order to educate the small business, lender and contracting community about programs and services.
  • Links and matches eligible small businesses to contracting opportunities with Federal, state, local and private sector organizations and prime/sub-contractors.
  • Under senior staff, in accordance with GCBD guidance, gains exposure to the annual review process in the District Office 8(a) portfolio.

Qualifications

GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: that demonstrates the ability to work in all of the following: participating in outreach events; serving as an initial point of contact for customers evaluate needs and refers to appropriate resources; providing administrative support to management. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME-IN-GRADE: If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled

GS-07: Successful completion of 1 year (18 semester hours) graduate-level education directly related to the position; OR Superior academic achievement based on one of the following: (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society member. Combination of Experience and Education:GS-07: Combination of education and experience as specified above. For example, an applicant who has 6 months (9 semester hours/14 quarter hours) of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
