The Maritime Undersea (MU) Mechanical Engineering Capability is seeking a Entry Level Structures & Payloads Design Engineer . Maritime Undersea is an exciting and dynamic team in Boeing Defense System's (BDS) Autonomous Systems Division, delivering a wide array of products including the Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV). This position is located in Herndon, VA . Successful candidate will be a key member of an established Design Engineering team to support the delivery of highly complex undersea vehicles & payloads that includes primary structures, mechanisms, electronic packaging, and wires/cables. Understanding of the design concepts and techniques, design validation best practices, drawing release process, mechanical components and subsystems, material properties and selection, and basic structural analysis will be developed in this position. Position will include CAD modelling, coordination with design stakeholders, and support to hardware development, test, verification, liaison support, and interface definition. This position may have some opportunity for travel to suppliers and other Boeing locations to support development, test and production (typically less than 10% travel). Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience ): **This position requires the ability to obtain a Top Secret US Security Clearance post start for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering or other related technical field Experience with CAD Tools (preferably CATIA V5 or NX) Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Experience with Undersea Products / Ocean Engineering Experience with Finite Element Modelling (preferably NASTRAN) Desire to design primary structure and/or mechanisms in maritime applications Proficient communicator with experience presenting technical concepts Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (eg Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
