Summary

This position is part of the Office of Science, Department Of Energy. As a Student Trainee (Physical Science), you will research background information; draft summary papers, presentations, and blog posts; organize meetings and workshops; and complete a science and technology policy project of mutual interest.

The incumbent is expected to onboard this fall and works part-time hours during the fall, winter, and spring and full-time hours during the summer.

Responsibilities

As a Student Trainee (Physical Science), in the Office of Crosscutting and Special initiatives, you will support communication about a wide variety of science, technology, and policy areas. You will:
  • Analyze portions of current or projected program operations to evaluate effectiveness in meeting established goals and objectives.
  • Develop and coordinate a variety of reports, staff actions, correspondence, and other related actions.
  • Collect data from a variety of reference sources and prepare reports to present patterns and trends in program activities.

  • Must be a student, accepted for enrollment or enrolled, and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by a background investigation.
  • Interns will be on a trial period for the duration of the appointment.


Qualifications

Education: You must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment seeking a degree from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution. You must meet the below education requirement for the GS-7 grade level:
A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education.
or
B. Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

You are required to submit a copy of transcripts and proof of enrollment.
