Role The primary function of this role is to serve as the primary underwriting officer for home equity loan decisions. Receives and evaluates home equity loan requests. Acts as a resource for information regarding loan decisions, home equity loan inquiries, and company lending products and services. Responsible to grant or deny loans within limits assigned and to provide the highest quality of service to members. Attempts to maximize the number of service relationships the member has with the organization. Major Duties & Job Responsibilities 45% - Receives member loan requests through mortgage loan platform. Evaluates and underwrites loan requests using judgment and discretion in making decisions to fulfill the member's needs. Loans outside of guidelines or approval parameters are escalated to the VP of Lending with a recommendation as to the loan decision for each loan. 20% - Responsible for communicating loan decisions to Mortgage Loan Officers including the ability to discuss loan denials, loan alternatives and rate computation in a clear, concise and courteous manner. 10% - Cross-sell members on various organization lending products including ancillary products and other consumer loans. 10% - Informs and updates staff regarding policy and procedure changes, new services, and changes in underwriting guidelines and government regulations as they pertain to consumer lending products. Updates home equity loan procedures and provides procedures to staff. 10% - Assures that each loan request includes complete and accurate documentation and is responsible for evaluating the sufficiency of collateral offered. 5% - Stays abreast of all lending related regulations and complies with all applicable laws. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the SAFE Act, Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Knowledge and Skills EXPERIENCE Two to Five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers. OTHER SKILLS Knowledge of home equity, mortgage and consumer loan underwriting. Must have working knowledge of regulations affecting real estate lending and be able to communicate regulatory requirements and changes to management. Must have good communication and leadership skills. Knowledge of Mortgagebot, Meridian Link and DNA systems a plus. Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and the ability to use general office systems. ADA Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise. MENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
