Employee Relations Specialist

The George Mason University, Human Resources & Payroll Department is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for the Employee Relations Specialist position. Position Summary: The Employee Relations Specialist will provide a broad range of support to the Director of Employee Relations and the employee relations function in an effort to maintain a high level of employee satisfaction and retention.

Responsibilities: * Assist with employee relations policy questions and concerns; * Partner with HR Consultants and Director of Employee Relations to ensure university employees follow all applicable policies, including safety, grievance and performance evaluation procedures; * Coach individuals and managers on how to effectively address work-related concerns; * Refer employees to internal and external resources for resolving their issues; * Mediate the resolution of workplace issues between coworkers, supervisors, and employees; * Facilitate meetings; * Foster the implementation of team-building strategies within departments; * Develop initiatives to improve employee satisfaction and engagement; * Develop and maintain systemic and proactive approaches to conflict resolution between supervisors and employees; * Develop and maintain inter-department collaborative programs to help employees identify and address anger management, stress management, and substance abuse issues; * Work with Director of Employee Relations and other HR partners to develop improved methods of gathering honest feedback from employees (e.g. exit interview data); * Collaborate with the Faculty/Staff Engagement Team to work on employee engagement initiatives; * Prepare and provide training presentations to University faculty and staff that help supervisors develop managerial skills and develop their employees' potential; * Gather, organize, and maintain resources to support projects.

Required Qualifications: * Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and a commitment to customer service; * Excellent interpersonal communication skills; * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; * Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite programs; * Ability to handle sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner; * Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple assignments; * Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees in a diverse academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred; * Progressive experience as a human resources generalist, in an employee relations role, or other relevant experience.
