Computer Systems Engineer

George Mason University, Information Technology Services (ITS) - located on the Fairfax, Va., campus-invites applications for a Computer Systems Engineer position within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services, Cloud, Compute and Storage Engineering team. Responsibilities: * Manage assigned computing services and resources; * Develop and recommend options for service and system performance improvement; * Develop procedures and documentation to support operations; * Collaborate with enterprise customers and various teams to develop and deploy new solutions to business problems using known technologies from the university enterprise technology portfolio; * Collaborate with other EIS teams on development and testing of new technologies, system designs or capabilities for the university enterprise technology portfolio; * Function as an escalation layer for operations teams to resolve complex issues.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in a technology-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Ability to work cooperatively and enthusiastically with a diverse team of people, such as demonstrating successful outcome from such collaboration; * Ability to interact with people to create excellent customer service experiences; * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; * Demonstrated expertise in managing enterprise Windows computing resources; * Demonstrated experience in a systems administration or engineering role, providing support in a multi-user enterprise Windows environment; * Strong experience in ADFS, AD, and GPOs; * Strong experience in PowerShell scripting; * Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; * Working knowledge of system virtualization, hypervisor, and orchestration technologies; * Functional ability to build scripts or programs to support automated administration; * Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent tasks; * Experience providing customer technical support; * Must be eligible to work in secure computing environments that process and store restricted data, including information subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

Preferred Qualifications: * Expert ability to build scripts or programs to support automated administration; * Microsoft System Administration Certifications; * Three or more years' experience in a systems administration or engineering role, providing support in a multi-user enterprise environment; * Working knowledge of SQL and SCCM; * Working knowledge of configuration management systems, such as Puppet or Ansible; * Working knowledge of authentication systems, such as LDAP, Kerberos, AD, ADFS, CAS, or Shibboleth; * Familiar with networking technologies and concepts; * System/Network Administration or Design Certifications; * Advanced Degree in a technology-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Experience leading an information technology implementation project.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
