Senior Research Analyst

About the Position: The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (OIEP) is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to independently manage day-to-day administration of data and perform complex analysis, forecasting, and modeling using multiple internal as well as external data sources. This position will also partner with colleagues both within and outside of OIEP in the development and testing of institutional analytics data models focused on, e.g., enrollment, faculty activity and productivity, competitive positioning, unit cost and student success. This position, by virtue of the duties performed, also plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data used for reporting, planning and monitoring institutional effectiveness. The work produced by this staff position will have significant impact on decision making regarding a defined service, function, or population (student, faculty and staff, alumni) at George Mason University.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Institutional Research, the Senior Research Analyst will: * Refine and maintain OIEP Enrollment and Degree Projection Model; * Develop forecasting and modeling analytics to foster student success; * Identify and anticipate data and information reporting needs of the University's schools, colleges, and senior administrators; * Provide complex analysis in support of academic planning, reporting and decision-making, which may include the creation of new studies or modification of current projections or practices; * Develop standardized practices for extracting and analyzing data from Banner and Microstrategy for the creation of official census reporting data files in multiple areas; * Ensure accuracy and integrity of final files; * Organize new and census data to comply with established institutional research standards and protocols; * Develop standardized practices for analyzing and interpreting data to ensure data accuracy and integrity in all reports that are created and disseminated; * Develop standardized practices for extracting and analyzing data from Banner and Microstrategy for the creation of official census reporting data files in multiple areas; * Ensure accuracy and integrity of final files; * Organize new and census data to comply with established institutional research standards and protocols; * Develop standardized practices for analyzing and interpreting data to ensure data accuracy and integrity in all reports that are created and disseminated; * Take a proactive role in a variety of advanced institutional research projects, including, but not limited to survey research, competitive positioning, strategic resource allocation, data warehouse development, business intelligence and dashboard development; * Keep abreast of industry developments and trends through participation in professional development, conferences, and workshops.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in quantitative disciplines such as Business Administration, Public Policy, Statistics, Educational Research, or a related discipline; * Experience in using SAS, SPSS, or other comparable statistical analysis program for complex analysis and decision support; * Programming knowledge of SAS (preferred) or SPSS; * Strong knowledge of applied statistical analysis, such as t-test, f-test, and other advanced multivariate statistical techniques and research design methodologies; * Ability to work with data from multiple internal and external sources; * Working knowledge of ERP such as Banner, PeopleSoft, SAP; * Knowledge of business intelligence and analytics tools such as Microstrategy, Tableau, SAS analytics/miner, SAS Viya; * Ability to work independently; * Strong critical thinking skills and ability to convey complex ideas to multiple audiences; * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; * Demonstrated experience (at least two years preferred) in an institutional research related area.

Preferred Qualifications: * Full-time professional experience of at least five years; * SAS certification; * Experience with data visualization.
