SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant is an experienced finance professional with proven technical skills in accounting. The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing entries for the general ledger and analyzing monthly financial statement variances. The position plays a key role in supporting various areas in the Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Financial Planning & Reporting departments. This position may also work with other departments to develop policies and procedures which align to enterprise-wide business strategies and enhance internal controls over financial accounting and reporting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: Other duties may be assigned.. Prepares daily, weekly and month-end accounting processes for Fixed Assets. . Monthly general ledger journal entries including accruals, prepaid accounts and adjusting entries.. Prepares monthly variance analysis.. Analyzes expense accounts verifying proper coding.. Assists with the preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, including monitoring actuals to capital expense budget and other reports as a needed basis.. Communicates through written correspondence and orally with field and Corporate personnel, vendors, and auditors in a timely and professional manner.. Work closely with VP of Real Estate, field operations and other departments with all aspects related to the accounting of fixed assets and leases, including the sale of properties and leasing of properties.. Document and address accounting classification between capital and operating leases.. Performs account reconciliations to the general ledger.. Communicates issues and findings and recommends corrective action. . Audits accounts to ensure adherence to organization's accounting policy. Works with external auditors during annual audits.. Prepares ad hoc reports and analyses.. Assists on special projects as needed.. Performs additional tasks as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree and two to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, must possess strong computer skills, CPA required.
