Job Title: TAX MANAGERSummary of Responsibilities:Performs a wide variety of diversified, usually complex, tax-related tasks and supervises other tax department personnel. Must have strong technical, organizational, project management, client service, research, and staff development skills. Must have experience working in the tax department as a manager in a firm with complex corporate, partnership, and individual tax return preparation and consulting engagements.Essential Functions:. Approves all returns with the exception of those dealing with specialized issues that require the expertise of another partner or director.. Approves less complicated personal returns.. Acts as a resource for tax staff and senior tax accountants.. Performs more complex tax research.. Becomes involved in tax planning for less complex client situations.. Develops a general understanding of firm philosophy and tax opinions.. Analyzes IRS notices and drafts responses.. Reviews IRS notice responses prepared by other tax personnel.. Represents clients before the IRS.. Delegates work to tax staff and senior tax accountants and supervise their work.. Teaches internal tax courses. Participates in tax department administrative projects and manages project workflow.. Assumes the responsibility for the smooth flow of tax returns.. Acts as key client contact person for smaller engagements.. Researches and advices clients on employment, sales, property and other state and local tax issues. Bills clients and discusses fees with smaller clients.. Contributes to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive service.. Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and imagination.. Preparation of corporate income tax accrual calculation and related footnotes for a complex tax provision. Provide consulting advice on corporate tax method elections, acquisitions, disposals, tax credits, like kind exchanges, and multi-state tax filings. Competency in preparing and supervising the following types of tax returns:1. 1120 Complex corporate tax returns with acquisition and tax credits2. 1065 Complex partnership returns3. 990 Complex not for profit tax returns4. 990T Unrelated business income tax returns5. 990PF Private foundation tax returns6. 5500 Employee benefit plan tax returns7. 1040 Complex individual tax returns8. Various state individual and corporate tax returnsOther Functions:. Exhibits time management and organization skills.. May assist with recruitment and training of other tax department personnel.. Develops entrepreneurial approach to client service and good working relationships with client personnel.. Maintains contacts with peers, develops network of business contacts, meets with prospective clients, and cultivates referrals.. Accepts volunteer positions in community organizations.. Writes articles and makes presentations.. Develops a broad general knowledge of economic, political, and business conditions.. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.Job Qualifications:. Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related program.. Six to ten years' experience in accounting or tax return preparation, with at least five in public accounting.. Proficiency in use of computers and tax software programs.. CPA certification.Physical Requirements. Prolonged use of hands and fingers. Ability to read fine print.
