Forensic Science DNA Lab Instructor

The George Mason University Forensic Science Program in the College of Science invites applications for a full-time, Forensic Science DNA Lab Instructor position. Responsibilities: The Forensic Science DNA Lab Instructor works and teaches in a biological, physical science, and research-oriented laboratory environment with a wide variety of undergraduate, graduate students and faculty. The selected finalist will be responsible for teaching or co-teaching graduate level courses in forensic science research methods and DNA laboratory methodologies. The incumbent will also be responsible for operations in all GMU Forensic Science Program laboratories.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

* Work one-on-one with graduate students to train them on complex biological and physical science instrumentation, including proper usage and protocols; * Supervise the instruction of an online Mason Core course on principles of forensic science and will also assist other forensic science professors in grant preparation and development in areas including biological and physical sciences; * Serve as an essential participant in laboratory training and oversee all students and faculty who utilize all forensic science laboratories; * Work directly with graduate students on their graduate research; * Oversee the maintenance and repair of shared equipment and facilities.

Required Qualifications: * A Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Theoretical and practical knowledge of forensic DNA analysis and the ability to evaluate biological samples; * Relevant educational background and skills to train students and faculty in theoretical and laboratory aspects of molecular DNA analysis; * Managerial skills to properly supervise laboratory personnel, and graduate teaching assistants and graduated research assistants; * Interpersonal skills to interface with faculty and students effectively in an educational environment; * The ability to interact effectively with university and external support personnel and to coordinate the maintenance and repair of all laboratory instruments; * Experience with research methodologies in the biological and physical sciences; * Experience with instruction as primary and co-instructor in graduate level research laboratory course; advanced research methods course, graduate research course; physical and biological instrumentation course; * Experience managing a DNA laboratory with detailed knowledge of reagents and instrumentation utilized in forensic DNA analysis.
