The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Financial Specialist II to be a part of one of the most highly-regarded park systems in the country. Under direction of the Revenue Operations Manager, performs professional accounting work assuring that the financial records of the Park Authority are maintained in accordance with the directive of Fairfax County Office of Finance and according to generally accepted accounting principles. Assists the revenue section of the Park Authority by performing a variety of complex accounting functions such as cash report review and reconciliation, management of accounts receivable, preparation of complex journal entries and reports and monthly Virginia sales tax return preparation along with online payment setup.

  • Prepares and/or analyzes financial data and makes recommendations;
  • Plans, organizes and participates in the reconciliation of funds;
  • Reviews and verifies postings to appropriate ledgers and subsidiary accounts;
  • Prepares or assist development of the agency budget and monitors budget status.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Ability to prepare, interpret and analyze financial reports and statements;
  • Ability to develop and apply budget, procurement, and payment procedures in accordance with established county policies.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting; or a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field that has been supplemented by at least six credit hours of basic accounting principles and concepts; plus two years of professional-level finance or business administration experience. A master's degree in a related field or CPA may substitute for one year of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in public administration, finance, government, business administration or a related field.
  • Experience in financial audits and reporting.
  • Experience within local or state government.
  • Experience working with cash handling operations and reporting
  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state and county policies, procedures, regulations and legislation impacting the maintenance of financial records;
  • Experience with Pivot tables, Microsoft Office Suite applications, including high-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel to analyze and manipulate data
