Interim Executive DirectorAbout the Position:One Common Unity (OCU) is a 501(c)(3) organization that breaks cycles of violence and builds compassionate, healthy communities through the transformative power of music, arts, and peace education. OCU is looking for an Interim Executive Director who can help guide the organization through its next phase of evolution and until a permanent management structure (and leadership) is retained. The Interim Executive Director will sustain the successes of OCU as the Board searches for a permanent management structure, though the Interim Executive Director will have a significant role in advising the Board on this matter. One of the primary responsibilities of the Interim Executive Director is to assist a Board-delegated Task Force (consisting of Board and staff members) as it assesses a permanent management structure for the future of OCU. This entails a candid assessment of the current structure and senior leadership team, with recommendations based on prior experience in working through a transition from the founder/only executive director to a new structure that captures the growth and future of OCU.The Interim Executive Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and, to a lesser extent, capacity building and programs. The Interim Executive Director is the ultimate internal decision-maker on operational decisions (consulting with senior staff in thoughtful consideration of the institutional memory and knowledge they hold) and checking with the Board on any decisions with larger policy implications for OCU. The Interim Executive Director will work closely with the Board to support and facilitate effective oversight and direction setting, and the goal is to have a transition period of time where OCU (and the Interim Executive Director) will have the support of the outgoing Executive Director.Specific Priorities: 1. Assist the Transition Task Force with an assessment of OCUs management structure and transition to a permanent leadership team. 2. Foster staff morale through the transition and build staff readiness and excitement to partner with the new management/leadership structure (eg, a permanent Executive Director) and to retain staff. Facilitate relationship building between staff and Board. Overall responsibility for development, support, and retention of staff and volunteers. 3. Closely monitor the budget, especially tracking and problem-solving revenue generation and expenditures. Ensure the maintenance of effective systems for service delivery through budget to actual reporting and the use of fiscal data as a management tool for decisions and timely financial reports to the Board. Oversee grant management. 4. Work with staff (including consultant(s)) to ensure that programmatic work is in alignment and that staff are working well together through the transition to new leadership, including the school-based mental health work. 5. Develop a preliminary dashboard (or other tool) to monitor OCUs sustainability in terms of programs, revenue generation and finances, impact and customer service. Engage the Board and staff in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of OCUs services and in business planning to identify program, financial, and infrastructure development goals and strategies.Qualifications: Prior experience as interim executive director of a nonprofit, and assisting with assessment of management structure during transition, required. Seasoned nonprofit manager with successful senior level experience managing an organization with a high level of commitment to social justice, environmentalism, anti-racism, and nonviolence (or similar efforts), preferred. Strategic thinker who is good at making decisions with an understanding of how they impact the big picture. Team builder who is good with coaching staff to performance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging, which centers employee wellness and growth. Strong strategic fiscal management, oversight and budgeting skills. Ability to maintain relationships with external stakeholders. Good understanding of the operational and back-office systems and infrastructure of a nonprofit (HR, Finance, IT, etc.). Experience working with Boards of Directors.Applications are due by July 6, 2021 at 5 pm, though the position is open until filled. Applications should be submitted through JobScore.
