Program Assistant, Hylton Performing Arts Center

The George Mason University Hylton Performing Arts Center seeks qualified candidates for a Program Assistant. This position will support the Hylton Center's Veterans and the Arts Initiative by facilitating workshops and special events, as well as assisting administrative tasks. Position Summary: The primary focus of the position will be in support of community engagement through the Arts. The Program Assistant will report to the Program Director of the Veterans and the Arts Initiative and work closely with Hylton Center staff. This position is responsible for facilitating workshops, completing tasks during community engagement programming, and completing administrative tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities: * Attend and facilitate and/or co-facilitate workshops and special events for the Veterans and the Arts Initiative (including some weeknights and weekends); * Ability to set up and put away instruments and art supplies, chairs, music stands, and signs before and after workshops and special events; * Stay aware of changing safety protocols as determined by the Hylton Center and the University; * Work closely with Program Director and Hylton Center staff to implement operations and marketing plans; * Determine workshop and special event rosters and communicate information regarding registration, scheduling, etc.; * Gather information for impact reports for workshops and/or events and support research efforts as needed; * Attend some external meetings to share information about community art programs.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelors or Master's degree in the arts, education, social sciences, health sciences, and/or related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Understanding of the U.S. Military and Veteran communities (and awareness of current news, opportunities, and changes); * Understanding of higher education workspaces and non-profit workspaces; * Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously; * Enjoy working with a diverse, intergenerational group of community members from children through older adults to facilitate inclusive arts engagement; * High level of initiative and ability to work productively with limited supervision; * Attention to detail in administrative tasks; * Excellent punctuality, organization, and time management skills; * Ability to work under pressure, in conditions with potential for ambiguity and quick change, and maintain a professional demeanor; * Ability to efficiently multitask; * Inclusive interpersonal skills; * Ability to work as a team member; * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; * Strong computer aptitude, including experience with word processing and spreadsheet software; * Experience working in a community setting with a diverse group of people (2+ years preferred), including experience providing instructions in different ways to those with specific learning needs.
