School of Nursing - Standardized Patients

The College of Health and Human Services is launching a search for Standardized Patients. This is a wage position, expected to work in the School of Nursing about 20-30 hours over a 1-2 week period (at most). About the College: The College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University includes five academic departments including Global and Community Health, Health Administration, Policy and Informatics, Nutrition and Food Studies, Rehabilitation Science, and Social Work, which field a variety of nationally-ranked graduate and undergraduate programs (BS through PhD), and one school, Nursing. The College has recently opened its Population Health Center, which is a state-of-the-art clinical and research facility, while offering professional development opportunities. The College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate and 1,136 graduate students and approximately 140 faculty and staff. The College is currently transitioning to become a college of public health. Responsibilities: Individuals will work in a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, and peers. Individuals will work no more than a total of 20-30 hours over a 1-2 week period (at most). Duties include: * Be comfortable having repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on self; * Be willing to wear a hospital gown with only undergarments underneath, while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor; * Simulate all aspects of scenarios, including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner; * Accept ongoing feedback from facilitators and incorporate into case simulation; * Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations; * Be highly dependable and punctual; * Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments; * Follow written and verbal instructions; * Provide constructive feedback, both verbal and in written form, to students and faculty; * Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * Demonstrated experience as a Standardized Patient for at least three months; * High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: * Ability to walk, stand, sit, or lie down for long periods, as well as memorize information rapidly.
