Summary

The position is located in the Division of Insurance and Research, Special Studies Section, providing support to identify, monitor, and address existing and emerging aggregate risks to the Corporation's deposit insurance funds.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers, analyzes, and prepares financial information pertaining to the financial services industry, the financial markets, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, with particular emphasis on those developments impacting insured institutions.
  • Performs financial analyses related to identifying existing and emerging aggregate risks to the Corporation's deposit insurance funds.
  • Performs complex mathematical and statistical calculations related to industry analysis.
  • Performs analysis, using appropriate software tools, of the financial services industry, the financial market, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, with particular emphasis on developments affecting insured institutions.
  • Participates in the production of FDIC publications to disseminate analysis to supervisory personnel, senior management of the Corporation, other regulators, the industry and the public.
  • Orally presents analytical results to the management and professional staff of the Division, the FDIC and other organizations with an interest in these topics.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here .

CG-11: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 09 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience performing each of the following: conducting analyses using financial data; writing code to conduct financial analyses using at least one of the following languages or packages: Stata, Python, Julia, or Matlab.

OR

You may substitute a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M, if related. Degree program must have a major study in one of the following: finance, business administration, economics, accounting, insurance, engineering, mathematics, banking and credit, law, real estate operations, statistics, or other fields related to the position, such as agriculture, agricultural economics, farm, livestock or ranch management, or rural sociology.

OR

You may qualify by a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 2 years may be combined with experience as described above.

CG-12: Applicant must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG/GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience performing each of the following: conducting analyses using structured financial data or unstructured financial data; writing code to conduct financial analyses using at least one of the following languages or packages: Stata, Python, Julia or Matlab.

There is no substitution of education for the experience for the CG-12 grade level.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Within these categories, candidates eligible for veterans' preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.
  • Ability to apply financial, statistical, and mathematical methodologies (such as financial modeling, statistical analysis and simulation techniques) to illustrate and support conclusions about financial trends.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of financial analysis sufficient to perform a wide range of duties in completing assignments with some supervision.
  • Knowledge of standard personal computer tools, including standard spreadsheet, database, graphics and statistical packages, and the ability to access Web-based and mainframe data sources.
  • Knowledge of concepts and methods used in mathematical and statistical calculations.
  • Ability to develop written reports to relate findings and make recommendations.
  • Ability to work with disparate parties to build consensus on issues and achieve results as part of a team.
