Together, we serve and inspire to transform lives.The primary responsibility for Commercial and SBA Loan Underwriter will be to underwrite new and existing commercial loans, consisting primarily of C, CRE and SBA 7(a) loans. This person will be responsible for the preparation and presentation of new credit requests, conducting annual reviews and recommending approval or denial of each. The Commercial and SBA Loan Underwriter will input loan spreads, analyze financial statements and write a detailed credit memorandum supporting the credit decision.In addition, will partner with the commercial lenders to pre-screen requests, recommend increases, modifications, or provide a liquidation recommendation as-needed. This position will play an integral role in a growing department by efficiently underwriting and structuring credit facilities that meet the needs of the credit union while at the same time mitigating overall risk and exposure. Responsibilities: Prescreen credit requests to determine viability of the requestAdminister all phases of an annual review to include; the collection and analyzing of financial data, credit memo preparation and the documentation of the credit filesHave a strong understanding of financial ratios and interpretation of thoseBe able to assess the quality of the business assets pledged as collateral and understand the liquidation ramificationsReview credit reports and UCCs on an annual basis to ensure integrity of our lien and collateralEvaluate financial information provided by the borrower; cash flow analysis, personal and business tax returns and business financial statementsEnsure all credit recommendations are based on sound credit underwriting principles and in accordance with the existing MBL policyKnowledgeable helpful, but not required, of SBA SOP and 10 tab foldersMonitor loan covenants monthly, quarterly and annuallyInterview potential borrowers and go on joint calls with the Lenders as needed to determine viability of a requestPerform other duties as assigned by the Commercial Lending Portfolio Manager or Vice President of Commercial LendingRemain cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in business desiredMinimum of 5 years experience underwriting commercial or small business loans, with knowledge in C, CRE, SBA 7(a) and 504 credit reviewKnowledge of laws and regulations governing business and consumer lending practices as well as collection practices.
