IRIS assessments are not regulations but they provide a critical part of the scientific foundation for decision- making across EPA to protect public health under an array of environmental laws (such as the Clean Air Act; Safe Drinking Water Act; Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act).
