STREETS SUPERINTENDENT

An Overview
The Department of Transportation & Environmental Services (T&ES) Public Works Services Division is seeking a Streets Superintendent to perform managerial work functions in a diversified public works environment. Specific work associated with the position includes overseeing daily operations and activities of the Streets Division.

The Opportunity
  • Influence, motivate and enable the streets division to meet organizational goals and contribute to;
  • Organizational success. Building of trust, coach individuals to bring out their optimal performance;
  • Reviews, Inspects, and responds to customer service requests;
  • Provides written responses to Freedom of Information Act, City Manager Office, Department Head and Citizens on inquiries and other issues daily;
  • Works with the community by responding to inquiries and overseeing or performing tasks as requested continuously, and attends community meetings and Council meetings to discuss programs as needed;
  • Oversight responsibility to street infrastructure maintenance projects (sidewalks and road maintenance, litter collection, street sweeping, etc.) and seasonal programs / events (fall leaf collection, mulch, snow removal, special events, etc.);
  • Organizes and oversees responsibilities with emergency response, inclement weather-related (flooding, snow, etc.) and civil unrest (protests, safety initiatives) involvement and coordination;
  • Works with staff to keep accurate records of materials on hand, and to ensure the annual and ongoing acquisition of materials and disposal of materials;
  • Works with the Division Chief and others on the scheduling, record keeping and compliance of safety for reporting to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Reviews and approves electronic timekeeping and employee time off, and evaluates employee performance, councils' employees and effectively discusses employee performance with the Division Chief;
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies, coordinates with others within the City on as needed basis, and assists with contract development and management, purchase of equipment;
  • Provides guidance to the Division Chief on the Capital Improvement Plan and assists with the development, revision, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Works under a required On Call Status and perform any other related duties that are not listed, but assigned.

The Ideal Candidate
To qualify for this position, all candidates must possess Two years of college; two years of lead supervisor experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; and must possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B license issued by state of residence.

To qualify as the ideal candidate, a candidate must possess considerable experience in the practice of street maintenance, a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal government and or public works department, and a valid Class B license is desired.
