This position is located in the Press Relations section of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA). As the Public Affairs Specialist you will assist the manager for Press Relations on various aspects of OCC's press relations program and respond to news media inquiries about OCC functions, policies, programs and activities as directed.

As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
  • Serve as agency spokesperson and respond to news media inquiries about the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) functions, policies, programs, and activities as directed. Develop and maintains relationships with media representatives to advance OCC's goals regarding press relations and the dissemination of information to the public, the press, and specialized audiences.
  • Represent the OCC and press relations team in meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Plan, coordinate, and participates in meetings and events with OCC officials for news media interviews and provides media training.
  • Prepare press relations materials for distribution and coordinates the posting of news releases to OCC Web sites, e-mail distribution lists, and news release distribution services. Writes, edits, and manages news releases, talking points, public service announcements, fact sheets, and other material for distribution internally and externally to OCC. Works with OPA and OCC staff to coordinate draft material and responses to queries.
  • Research, develop, write, and pitch story ideas to national, regional, and local media representatives. Researches and presents analysis of media coverage, news releases, and public service program by ensuring effectiveness and impact.   • Develop and execute tactics to take advantage of print, radio, television and online media outlets, social media, and other emerging opportunities. Works with OPA and OCC staff to coordinate draft material and responses to queries.

You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-IV or GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized Experience for this position include is demonstrated as:
  • Serving as an agency spokesperson by responding to requests for information and interviews about agency programs, policies, and priorities from members of the media, and
  • Preparing written communication products such as news releases, media advisories, talking points, fact sheets and articles, and
  • Planning press briefings and providing media relations training to internal staff members, and
  • Providing recommendations to agency management regarding media relations activities or strategies.

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
