The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking an Entry Level Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Autonomous Systems, Maritime Undersea (MU) division in the Herndon, VA area. This position will provide an opportunity to design new mechanical systems, implement new capabilities in existing field units, support the design and production of new Autonomous Vehicles, and work in a cross-functional team environment where customer focus, teamwork, and communication are critical. Although the position is in Herndon, VA, significant time will be spent traveling to support design, test, and integration activities in Huntington Beach, CA. Primary Responsibilities: Assisting with mechanical systems design over the complete product lifecycle including requirements and interface definition, engineering drawing development, release, & revision. Using modelling and analysis tools to support mechanical system development, test and design verification Documentation / generation of technical instructions and procedures for integration and test of complex mechanical systems Technical support for fabrication and test of production-level structure, mechanisms & installations Responsible for supporting and presenting design information and details throughout the engineering process, and creating design documentation through the release cycle Basic (Required) Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering or other related technical field Proficient in technical writing and detailed documentation of complex processes Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate across multiple disciplines with internal and external customers Computer proficiency and ability to use and navigate the internet and various computer software programs (eg Microsoft Office Suite) Knowledge and ability to understand and interpret technical data Skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources. Knowledge and ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings. **This position requires an active Top Secret US Security Clearance post start for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. Preferred (Desired) Qualifications: Experience in mechanical design using CATIA V5, UG/NX or similar for CAD Experience in structural analysis using Finite Element Models Experience in analyzing and translating requirements into system architecture, hardware and interface specifications Team experience (Agile work environment, formal technical presentations, formal customer presentations) Typical Education & Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (eg Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Relevant Information and Requirements: This position requires an active Top Secret US Security Clearance post start for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense. This position is on 1st shift.
