Description: Job Title: Image Science Engineer Job Code: SAS20212705-61900 Job Location: Springfield, VA Job Description: The image scientist will be part of a small and highly talented team supporting the mission at the customer location in the area of remote sensing with a focus on multi- and hyperspectral imaging. The person will be responsible for providing image expertise to help develop analytical processes and tools as well as assessing image quality impacts associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation and display of digital imagery. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable working across R&D and operational lab environments, with multidisciplinary teams in a mixed-contractor environment, and support direct government customer interfacing. Essential Functions: On-Site engineer providing support to a multidisciplinary team and customer. Provide image science expertise to assess utility of image processing routines and their impact on image/product quality throughout the TCPED chain. Investigates, analyzes and provides solutions to complex problems encountered by engineering services and quality control using standard engineering practices. Supports the discovery, design and implementation of new techniques to address emerging problems to improve data collection capabilities, product formation, data exploitation, product quality, and algorithm development. Authors technical documents and presentations. Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, OR, Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. The degree must be in Imaging Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent. 2+ Years' Experience in Multi- and Hyperspectral remote sensing 2+ Years' Experience in remote sensing systems within areas such as imagery analysis, geolocation & mensuration, radiometric analysis / modeling, atmospheric correction, product quality assessments, numerical & visual performance assessments and other special / novel phenomenologies. 2+ Years' Experience with developing engineering-level (not production-level) software routines in languages such as ENVI/IDL, Python, C, C++, or MATLAB (at least one language). Active TS/SCI clearance Preferred Additional Skills: Experience in Multi- and Hyperspectral remote sensing. Prior involvement as a Technical Contributor developing solutions for customers, eg image processing algorithms, product quality metrics formulation, engineering tools to interrogate/measure various characteristics of image data. Knowledge of remote sensing systems in areas such as imagery analysis, geolocation & mensuration, radiometric analysis / modeling, atmospheric correction, product quality assessments, numerical & visual performance assessments, and other special / novel phenomenologies. Proficiency in applying engineering and scientific techniques to interrogate and exploit raw remote sensing data Experience supporting Full-Cycle Mission Planning activities for DoD systems. Exposure to Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (AGI) and FSG (Full Spectrum GEOINT). Familiar with analysis, exploitation, and advanced processing of a wide variety of discipline areas such as Electro-Optical (EO), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Overhead Persistent Infra-Red (OPIR), Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI), AI/ML, Space and Airborne ISR, etc.
