Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, located in Baltimore, MD, is seeking a leader to manage a functional team of mechanical engineers. This team is responsible for the technology development, detailed mechanical design and production support of complex AESA aperture assemblies for a variety of military applications. The functional manager's roles and responsibilities include:Leading a functional group comprised of approximately 15 mechanical engineers of varying experience levels; including performance management, merit planning, job assignment management/prioritization, career development, new employee onboarding and coaching.Providing timely information flow down and fostering robust communication within team.Engaging immediately to help team members overcome obstacles.Maintaining awareness and ensuring consistent utilization of design processes, guidelines and best practices within the team.Interfacing with program management in order to ensure effective staffing and support, and to provide mechanical engineering labor cost estimations.Supporting various department initiatives, which may include workforce engagement, talent recruiting and interviewing, development of training materials, technology roadmap management and cross-campus/cross-sector interchangeThe various functional management tasks should comprise approximately 20% of chargeable time, on average. The manager will be expected to maintain a programmatic role that provides productive charging for the remaining 80%. This position is located in Baltimore, MD. This position will report to the manager of the Aperture Technology section, within the Mechanical Technology & Design Services department, within the Hardware Engineering department.Basic Qualifications for M2:Minimum of 9 years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or minimum of 7 years of related engineering experience with a Master's degree.Excellent verbal and written communication, time management and organizational skills.Self-motivated, proactive, organized and detail oriented.Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret or higher security clearance.Preferred Qualifications for M2:Demonstrated success in a Mechanical Engineering Technical Lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other leadership role.Experience with the design and fabrication of high-reliability electronic subassemblies for military applications.Familiarity with various hardware product design processes, tools and roles utilized within the NGMS-BWI Hardware department.Previous functional management experience.Active Secret or higher security clearance.Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
