Public/Community Health - Term Assistant Professor

The George Mason University, Department of Global and Community Health invites applications for a full-time term assistant professor (9-month, non-tenure track, state-funded) starting August 2021. About the Department: Founded in 2006, the Department of Global and Community Health offers CEPH accredited programs at the graduate and undergraduate level, including a BS in Community Health with concentrations in Clinical Science, Global Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity; a MS in Global Health; a MPH with concentrations in Community Health Promotion, Epidemiology, Food Security and Nutrition, Global Health, Health Policy, Public Health Communication; and a PhD in Public Health with concentrations in Epidemiology and Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Department's programs enroll nearly 600 undergraduate and more than 100 graduate students. The department includes 17 full-time faculty members with backgrounds in the biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, global health, and social and behavioral sciences, who are committed to the ideals of health equity and social justice among underserved domestic and global populations.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, participating in university governance, professional and public service, and performing related assignments such as supervising senior projects, and student internships and practicum. Annual appointments will depend on budget and performance. The selected candidate for this position will be expected to teach four courses per semester in a variety of public health areas which may include: epidemiology, biostatistics global health, public health foundations, health behavior theories, public health promotion methods, planning and evaluation, public health leadership and advocacy, and social determinants of health. The incumbent may be asked to teach courses in person and/or in distance format.

Required Qualifications: * Earned Doctoral degree in a public health discipline or closely related field; * Record of effective teaching.in public health or a closely related discipline in distance and in person formats; * Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a diverse student population; * Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * MPH or a MSPH from a CEPH accredited school or program of public health; * Prior experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
