Virginia Department of Education Training and Technical Assistance Center Coordinator

The George Mason University Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) invites applications for a Coordinator. About the Department: As part of Mason's Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities, and in support of a grant from the Virginia Department of Education, TTAC provides technical assistance and professional development to school and related services personnel who work with students with disabilities in Virginia Superintendent's Region 4. Specifically, the TTAC staff work to improve instructional practices of those who work with students with disabilities in an effort to increase the academic success of these students. Particular attention is given to those schools struggling to meet state standards for making adequate yearly progress on indicators established by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

Responsibilities: The purpose of this position is to provide support in the form of training and technical assistance to school personnel who work with students with disabilities in Virginia Superintendent's Region 4. The Coordinator is responsible for coordination and delivery of specific training and professional development activities as directed by VDOE, TTAC leadership, and upon request of schools and school systems. The Coordinator also supports VDOE and TTAC initiatives as directed.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree or higher in Special Education; * School-based experience in delivering special education services at the secondary level; * Knowledge of effective evidence-based practices and current issues in special education; * Experience providing professional development activities, including virtual and hybrid; * Experience collaborating with others to provide professional learning activities to teachers and administrators.

Specifically, the qualified individual must provide evidence of: * Current knowledge of and experience with application of specially designed instruction and evidence-based practices in academic, behavior and social-emotional domains, particularly in self-determination and transition; * Knowledge of and experience with embedded and virtual coaching models and resources to provide ongoing support to teachers, build capacity and achieve sustainability; * Knowledge and experience in the application of effective practices for coaching teams in the implementation of strategies to encourage and promote self-determination skills and specially designed instruction (SDI) in reading and math in inclusive classrooms; * Knowledge of diverse classroom and virtual learning environments and ability to plan, assess, adapt and evaluate instruction to meet a variety of student and instructional needs; * Proven experience in collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills and leading teams and professional learning groups; * Proven ability to plan, assess and deliver effective professional learning in a variety of formats, such as on-site, virtual and hybrid models, to include coaching and capacity building components for sustainability; * Experience with developing, implementing and evaluating strategic action plans to accomplish short and long-term projects; * School-based experience implementing effective instruction with students with disabilities at the secondary level; * Experience using data for decision-making, informing instructional practices and determining outcomes and future planning for continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of or experience with the "I'm Determined" project.
