About the Department: The Mission of Undergraduate Education is to provide all students with a quality, engaging undergraduate education that gives them the tools to be Engaged Citizens and Well-Rounded Scholars who are Prepared to Act. Undergraduate Education manages the Undergraduate and Mason Core Curriculum, Academic Advising, and the Mason Impact initiatives.

Position Summary: The Office of Fellowships aims to raise the academic profile of Mason and its students by encouraging talented graduate students to explore fellowship opportunities and resources available to advance their academic and professional goals. The Office is committed to inclusive excellence practices and specifically seeks to mentor underrepresented students. The Office provides a supportive and friendly environment for students with a strong focus on mentoring and cultivating academic excellence.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director (AD) of Graduate Fellowships will be responsible for working across academic units to advise and support academic units and individual graduate students in identifying and securing funding to support graduate coursework and research. The AD will be responsible for implementing the vision and goals of the Office of Fellowships at the graduate level. Detailed duties are as follows: * Support the overall management of the Office of Fellowships and collaborate with the fellowships team; * Raise campus awareness of graduate funding opportunities through info sessions, unit visits, faculty meetings, and participation in student events and activities; * Advise, mentor, and support graduate students pursuing external fellowship funding; * Work directly with graduate education, graduate programs and faculty advisors to organize workshops and developmental programming to help graduate students apply for fellowships; * Manage recruitment, outreach, and program administration for graduate fellowship opportunities such as the Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research award, the DOD SMART award, the Fulbright US Student Program, the Critical Language Scholarship, and National Science Foundation awards, among many others; * Assist the Director of Fellowships in managing workflow and serving as a liaison to the graduate personal statement specialists; * Support the Office of Fellowships' social justice and inclusive excellence commitment to recruit from underrepresented (first generation, minority, LGBTQ+, veteran, low-income) student populations and encourage these students' professional development; * Participate in the national conversation on graduate fellowships and graduate education through participation in the National Association of Fellowship Advisors network, by presenting at national conferences and working directly with funding organizations.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience; * Strong understanding of the graduate school (master's and doctorate) experience for students; * Familiarity with funding mechanisms for graduate students, including but not limited to, nationally competitive scholarships and awards; * Experience supporting/advising underrepresented graduate student populations, commitment to inclusive excellence advising practices; * Experience with grants administration, specifically in STEM fields; * Willingness to work collaboratively with a small team and across campus offices; * Strong organizational/event planning skills; * Excellent public speaking skills.
