For the right candidate, this position is remote-friendly for work in the US.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and generate a taxonomy system within The Post's existing deployment system and application frameworks.
  • Work closely with our newsroom taxonomist and product organization to specify and then build our taxonomy database and tagging system.
  • Present findings and architecture recommendations both to executives and other engineering teams.
  • Build a reliable system featuring tests and documentation so that it can be maintained by other teams over time.

Qualifications
  • More than 3 years of software development experience, with 5 years or more preferred.
  • Comfortable working independently to implement software within broad technical guidelines.
  • Experience and comfort with microservice architecture, including interacting with services their team does not own.
  • Experience working with distributed teams to contribute code across repositories through pull requests and reviews.
  • Predisposition towards testing, instrumentation and writing documentation.
  • Comfortable writing high-quality, hygienic code in Node, React and Python.
  • Experience with AWS tools including RDS, CloudFormation, Lambda and step functions.
  • Journalism experience is not necessary but we'll prefer candidates with some familiarity with publishing systems.
