Job Description

Are you detail-oriented and thrive in a live production environment? Do you pro-actively work to ensure a production's success? The Washington Post is looking for a Production Specialist to be responsible for the assisting with the production management of all of Washington Post Live virtual events as well as for our Live Center, used for internal and public-facing events.

In this role you will:
  • Manage the production calendar for more than 200 events annually
  • Create RFPs for remote production needs and A/V projects
  • Maintain databases and coordinate equipment disbursement
  • Participate in pre-show testing with remote guests and production rehearsals
  • Handle scheduling of live streams and captioning for programs
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts as related to external A/V production and crews, manufacturing, support and installation companies
  • Collaborate with the team to make suggestions and recommendations to increase efficiency and effectiveness within the A/V operations including training and equipment upgrades
  • Consult and ideate with the event teams and executives for future enhancements for the live event experience
  • Keep all Live Center inventory, equipment and workspaces cleaned and organized
  • Work closely with the production engineers in the maintenance and organization of all production and A/V equipment at the Live Center
  • Manage the creation, updating and maintenance for all working SOPs and inventory for management of the Live Center and Events Group
  • Author and submit post event reports in a timely manner
  • Work across teams to attain all necessary production assets for all productions and events
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of necessary equipment on an event-by-event basis
  • Submit invoices, assist with planning and budgeting

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing productions and/or a production facility
  • Strong organizational skill and attention to detail
  • Understanding of broadcast workflow and live streaming
  • 2-4 years managing vendor relationships and contracts
  • Strong analytical and proven technical problem-solving skills, along with the ability to convey decision making to senior managers and customers
  • A natural curiosity to learn about our business and be able to provide insight into new opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • Excellent communications skills
  • The ability to problem-solve in fast paced and high-pressure situations
  • The ability to work alone and in a collaborative environment
  • The flexibility to work evenings and weekends, based on event schedules
  • A pro-active approach to task-based work assignments
  • Good time-management skills
  • Experience in working with MS Office suite
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs
