Job Description

The Risk Management Risk Office - Advisory Team is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Risk Manager to apply their thought leadership, organization, and delivery skills to our highest profile Risk Management (RM) projects to support the Enterprise Model Risk Management (EMRM) and Capital Risk Oversight (CapRO) departments. You will partner across Risk Management to develop and support cutting-edge Risk solutions in a manner that supports innovation and protects our customers, shareholders, and associates. You will partner with peers and senior leaders, first, second, and third lines of defense, as well as lines of business to drive organization change in order to better manage the Company's risk in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded.

As a Risk Manager in the Risk Management Risk Office, you will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to leaders across RM on potential risks to Capital One's risk management, governance, and oversight processes. You will provide risk guidance on all third line and regulatory interactions, including exam and issue management. You will provide and solicit expert advice to responses to ensure alignment with policy and sound risk management, and facilitate oversight requests, approvals, and escalate as appropriate to stakeholders and Accountable Executives (AEs) while ensuring consistency, collaboration, and process improvement. You will manage key risk activities for RM owned processes and work with key second line partners on new and changing risk programs and lead implementation for RM. In this role, you will apply your problem solving, communication, and influencing skills to provide advice as well as lead and manage initiatives to improve our risk management processes.

Risk Management professionals are experienced, well-trained, and progressive individuals that operate within a highly collaborative team environment to deliver value-added risk services to our business partners. The candidate will be a highly-motivated and energetic Risk Management professional with excellent support, analytical, planning, collaboration, and communication skills. This will be a rewarding role in a dynamic and fast-paced environment requiring ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments appropriately.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting, partnering, and interacting with AEs and senior leadership in RM and other risk management professionals across the enterprise;
  • Collaborating effectively with key partner risk organizations e.g. Compliance, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Regulatory Relations, and third line of defense (Audit and Credit Review);
  • Supporting audits, credit reviews, and regulatory exams and engagements owned by RM as well as those outside of RM that have impact, including issue remediation, request management, process adherence, tracking, escalation, and closure;
  • Analyzing information to proactively identify risks, trends, and process improvements; support reporting on risk topics to management;
  • Staying current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the risks and impacts to the businesses you support;
  • Preparing AEs for risk forums and contributing to continuous improvement of risk management and oversight practices;
  • Providing management and guidance during risk assessments (new processes, Risk and Control Self-Assessments, etc.);
  • Assisting Business Units (BUs) with the annual RM BU Process Level Assessments (PLAs) and Critical Business Process (CBP) management; and
  • BU control inventory management and data quality governance on controls and documentation in PRIME/FUSE (system of record)


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or military experience
  • At least 2 years of Risk Management experience
  • At least 4 years of project or process management experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Second line Risk Management and oversight experience
  • At least 6 years of project, process, or risk management experience
  • Strong customer focus and ability to collaborate across teams to deliver
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal
