Accounts Payable Accountant

The Purchasing and Accounts Payable Department invites applicants for a qualified Accounts Payable Accountant, responsible for performing different aspects of the Accounts Payable (AP) process. Responsibilities: * Serve as a backup technician/supervisor for different sections in Accounts Payable, including data entry, invoice processing, payment and reimbursement processing; * Prepare monthly prompt pay statistic according to the Virginia Prompt Pay Act and report the statistic to the Commonwealth of VA; * Administrate the Mason Financial Gateway for nontravel reimbursement expenses and vendor invoice processing; these include serving at the point of contact for any questions or concerns, following up on past due actions, working with other departments to resolve system issues as needed, troubleshooting issues with vendors, and performing vendor analysis, expense review, and analysis; * Manage monthly property lease payments for the university; * Manage the 1099 reporting process to vendors and IRS; * Prepare account reconciliations of moderate to difficult complexity; * Advise departments and vendors regarding university payment policies and procedures, and interact with vendor and Mason personnel to obtain invoice approvals and/or resolve disputed invoices; * Communicate with internal and external customers and promote positive team member relations; * Handle complex special assignments as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a combination of education and experience; * Two (2) or more years of accounting experience; * Experience working in Microsoft Office applications; * Demonstrated knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of AP; * Strong problem solving and analytical skills; * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: * Expert-level knowledge of the Ellucian Banner system in an AP capacity; * Strong attention to detail; * Excellence in organizational and time management.
