Job Announcement

Works with a caseload of approximately 50 participating families to purchase, with county funds, the support services necessary for their family members with a developmental disability to access and participate in community-based activities they determine to be meaningful and beneficial. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring, documenting, and reimbursing services purchased within existing Fairfax County, CSB, and SDS policies and procedures.

Duties include:
Administrative
  • Assists in developing policy, procedure, and guidance materials relative to managing, evaluating, and evolving the SDS program.
  • Maintains individual participant accounts including data entry and reconciliation.
  • Assists in developing policy, procedure, and guidance materials to facilitate a participant’s consideration of, entrance into, support during, and exit from the SDS program.
Services
  • Manages a Self-Directed Services caseload.
  • Develops, monitors and evaluates SDS Service plans.
  • Assists in negotiating, problem solving, and intervening on complex issues.
  • Assures service documentation is submitted and data entered into the electronic health records to meet state performance contract requirements.
  • Manages and amends assigned participant’s SDS Service Agreements.
Marketing and Capacity Building
  • Markets and promotes the SDS program to prospective participants and works collaboratively with FCPS, the CSB and other county departments, not for profit organizations, and the Fairfax County community at large.
  • Assists in building community capacity to support the SDS Program.

Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices related to service delivery to persons with developmental disability and their families.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, members of the service recipient's interdisciplinary team, public and private sector organizations, community groups, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with service recipients and their families.
  • Considerable knowledge of community based resources, including relevant public and private organizations. Ability to recommend service alternatives to allow for expanded choice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports using Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, and other software.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations and the ability to apply this knowledge to a variety of situations including, but not limited to, human rights and mandated reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize service activities.
  • Ability to actively participate in, and contribute to, strategic and other planning processes

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field. Contingent upon the area of assignment, some positions within this class may require specific certification(s) prior to employment and/or the ability to acquire necessary certification(s) within a specified time period following employment. The certifications are identified in the position description and employment advertisement .

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid state motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Periodic evening and weekend meetings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related human services field. At least two years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Master's degree can be substituted for 1 year of experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Excel spreadsheets.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to drive to numerous locations in the community during the course of the day. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel Interview and may include a practical/written exercise.
