Summary

This position is located in the Office of Safety Recommendations and Communications, Government and Industry Affairs Division, National Transportation Safety Board. The incumbent coordinates the agency's relationships with Congress, through hearings, briefings, meetings, and other communications, and further assists in the day-to-day operations of the Government and Industry Affairs Division and its communications with government agencies, state and local officials, and industry.

Responsibilities

As a Government and Industry Affairs Specialist, GS-14, you will be performing the following duties:
  • Plan and implement coordinated outreach programs for Congress, other Federal agencies, and industry.
  • Prepare Board Members and senior staff for testimonies and other presentations before Congress, including drafting materials, facilitating preparation sessions, and completing follow-up activities.
  • Maintain information on pending or proposed legislation, including bills and resolutions introduced, committee reports, committee hearings, documents, and public and private laws enacted which impact transportation safety
  • Respond to requests from Congress for background data on Board plans or proposals, status of Board investigation reports and hearings, and other matters of interest to Congress, and proactively keep Congress and other stakeholders informed of NTSB activities.
  • Support Board Members and investigative staff during accident launches, while on-scene or at headquarters.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service.

Specialized experience includes the following: Advising agency leadership regarding the interests and concerns of members of Congress and congressional committees and identifies how these concerns affect transportation safety programs and responsibilities; overseeing an agency's preparation for and follow-up to congressional hearings; providing reports to agency leadership on pending and /or proposed legislation related to transportation safety.

NOTE: Your resume must clearly show the specialized experience related to this position. Failure to demonstrate how you possess the specialized experience will results in an "Ineligible" rating.
