This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration, Office of Security Operations located in Silver Spring, MD; which is responsible for the physical measures designed to safeguard personnel, prevent unauthorized access to property and information, and to safeguard them against damage, theft, sabotage, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts inspection activities of physical security programs and facilities throughout FDA headquarters and field offices to ensure compliance with security requirements.
  • Determines the effectiveness of security controls in place to safeguard and protect personnel, facilities, and information.
  • Identifies the need for more effective management systems and controls in correcting discrepancies and inefficiencies in the physical security program.
  • Reviews security system design; evaluates the effectiveness of existing and future security systems.
  • Develops and initiates additions to security systems ( MDI, CCURE9000, etc.) to ensure that adequate security measures are maintained on FDA buildings and grounds.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts security assessment, studies, and projects to ensure that personnel are adhering to established policies and practices, and that buildings are properly secured.
  • Determines security measures necessary to prevent unauthorized access and disclosure of non-public information. Oversees security contracts as a Contracting Officers Representative (COR).

Qualifications

The position of Physical Security Specialist falls under the 0080 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12, you must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service, experience should demonstrate a general knowledge of personnel and information security policies, regulations, practices, procedures, and techniques.
