Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an assignment editor, focused on foreign and national security coverage, to join its award-winning Graphics team. This editor will assign, coordinate and edit projects while managing a small team of reporters. We are looking for an editor with a passion for news, and a leader who wants to explain what is happening in the world and generate original visual reporting. This editor will also collaborate closely with our Visual Forensics team.

Ideal candidates for this position should be able to generate story ideas off the news; evaluate information sources, visualize and design information; and inspire and nurture others. Key traits for applicants include flexibility and the willingness to engage in constructive criticism while working with others on the Graphics team and across the newsroom.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, the position will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Those interested should upload a cover letter, resume and a portfolio highlighting three graphics and your contributions to those projects to our jobs portal by June 25. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Graphics Director Chiqui Esteban and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
