Summary

The incumbent serves as a Supervisory IT Specialist in the Technology Center. The incumbent is a hands on technical supervisor responsible for the day-to-day administration and operation of the analytic software platforms and data systems utilized by the Office of Financial Research and will be performing highly technical and specialized operations management projects in support of OFR mission and program support.

Responsibilities

As a Supervisory IT Specialist, you will:
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to assigned team members on all aspects of technology operations
  • Manage the quality and timeliness of projects as assigned and coordinate assigned projects with other OFR teams involved as needed
  • Provide IT support to OFR Deputy Director of Technology, Associate Directors, IT Staff and other office staff to ensure that their day-to-day analytic software and software systems requirements are met
  • Suggest strategies for process and support model improvements that meet OFR mission objectives through disciplined and coordinated application of technology
  • Provide input for the planning, budget, security, configuration, and management processes related to the technical operations program activities and functions that support OFR business requirements

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the OR-60 is defined as one year of experience at the OR-53 (GS-13) level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience supervising and planning technical, engineering, deployment, and support of a systems engineering group that includes clustered systems, including either Hadoop or SLURM (Grid/Super-computing); AND
- Hands on experience with systems engineering and DevOps related technologies and techniques at the Tier-2 or 3 support levels with technologies such as: Linux Operating Systems, Ansible, CloudFormation, Docker, Kubernetes, or Python; AND
- Hands on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services and technologies such as EMR, EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda, or SSM; AND
- Experience supervising a group with operational and after-hours responsibilities such as patch management and maintenance, including planning support hours, leave schedules, etc.

In addition to meeting Specialized Experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

- Oral Communication: expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
- Problem Solving: identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
