Responsibilities

This position is located in the Office of Accident Investigation and Prevention (AVP) within the FAA's Aviation Safety (AVS) line of business.

The incumbent serves as a Management and Program Analyst for the AVS Research and Development Program (R&D). This position is located in the Safety Management and Research Planning Division, AVP-300. The incumbent is recognized as a subject matter expert and serves as a key member of the AVS R&D Team for administering the Aviation Safety R&D Prioritization Process to develop the AVS R&D portfolio each year. Provides leadership for complex and challenging activities under minimal direction of a manager.

Applies experience and expert knowledge to conduct functional activities for the AVS R&D Program. Leads the development of tools to track and report project cost, schedule, and performance status for AVS R&D projects though their life-cycle using project management skills and tools. Assembles and works across AVS Services & Offices and other FAA Lines of Business to gather the data necessary for tracking and reporting.

Tracks interfaces between AVS R&D projects and research projects from other government agencies such as National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Coordinates and works with the AVS R&D Team to continually improve the AVS R&D processes. Contacts are internal and external. Often represents the branch as a principal point of contact to provide advice and guidance on the applications of policies and procedures.

Supports the AVS R&D Program Manager in fulfilling their duties as the AVS R&D Group lead, Safety Program Planning Team lead and the Research Executive Board member and in preparing for Research, Engineering, & Development Advisory Committee (REDAC) and subcommittee meetings. Works with management to identify and resolve problems. Develops and recommends approaches to address current and anticipated problems and issues.

Work typically is reviewed only at completion for success in achieving planned results. The incumbent will perform additional duties for the safety mission, as assigned.

Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS 13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience may include but not limited to: Experience with research and development programs and experience in project management.
