The primary purpose of this position is to focus on, identify and understand the business and end-users' needs in order to create intuitive, transformational digital experiences. The incumbent leads various experience design activities throughout a project lifecycle in collaboration with content producers, interaction designers software engineers, and product managers. The incumbent drives and participates in research activities, derives insights, generates concepts, communicates those concepts visually, and works with developers and product managers to build, launch, and test public-facing digital products.

As the User Experience (UX) Designer, you will:
  • Work in cross-functional teams on portfolio of various digital products to enhance customers' experiences with our brand and facilitate an enjoyable experience using various forms of digital and web media. Researches, designs and delivers digital experiences for users that tie into the wider customer experience blueprint for the museum.
  • Provide leadership in delivering customer journey maps and user flows, sitemaps and wireframes, usability testing and stakeholder workshops - all of which require a combination of technical and design skills, as well as communication skills.
  • Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture across different digital products.
  • Produce user requirements specifications & experience goals, personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications.
  • Support colleagues in designing, testing and improving content that makes digital products easier to use (e.g., product flows, interface language, product names, navigational nomenclature, terminology, taxonomies across public digital products).
  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale and goals both verbally and visually.
  • Work closely with product mangers, visual/interaction designer(s) and engineering teams to ensure that customer goals are met and ensures delivery of design specifications.
  • Develop proof-of-concepts, wireframes and prototypes.
  • Have familiarity with, or may actually: test, debug, document, and implement mobile applications using a variety of platforms.
  • Analyze and synthesizes the results of usability testing and digital analytics in order to provide recommendations for modifications.
  • Create such artifacts as Usability Testing Plan, Testing Scripts, and Usability Testing Report.
  • Conducts stakeholder interviews, user requirements analysis, conceptual modeling, and usability testing.
  • Lead participatory and iterative design activities, including observational studies, customer interviews, workshops, usability testing, and other forms of requirements discovery.
  • Works closely with product managers to find opportunities for new products/features and validate assumptions through user testing and research.
  • Support the Head of Digital Product and Experience and external vendors on an upcoming website redesign.

  • Knowledge and experience with driving and applying user-centered design processes while working collaboratively alongside cross-functional teams including visual design, content production, product management, media production, and engineering.
  • Experience designing and delivering large and complex websites and public-facing digital products.
  • Experience in building in user research practices across product design lifecycles, from prototype testing, remote and in-person user testing, interviews, groups and observational research.
  • Experience using, configuring and interpreting web analytics, primarily using Google Analytics, Hotjar and other qualitative and quantitative data; experience using data to design experiences and delivery continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience using industry-standard software, tools and methodologies (Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Axure, InVision, Marvel,, etc.); familiarity with online collaborative platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
  • Thorough understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG, and the principles of inclusive design.
  • Knowledge of web-based technologies and their impact on the feasibility of design solutions.
