Make yourself at home with us and start doing your life's best work.(sm)The UnitedHealth Group Center for Health Care Research, based in Minneapolis and Washington, DC, seeks an outstanding and experienced health systems research project manager and analyst to serve on a high-performing, close-knit team of innovative health care researchers and analysts working within a mission-driven, results-oriented, restless, and highly successful Enterprise. The Center's research supports UHG's commitment to the development of a next-generation health system in a socially conscious manner and the implementation of actionable, practical, and timely policy and market solutions that can achieve universal coverage, affordability, better experiences for patients and physicians, and improved health outcomes. The successful candidate will be detail oriented and demonstrate strong analytic skills, strategic thinking, and communication skills (both oral and written); deep and broad knowledge of health care policy and markets; passion for health care transformation; and excellent judgment. The successful candidate will help manage the development and execution of a robust research agenda, analyze large administrative and clinical datasets, and support high-profile partnerships with prominent researchers at leading universities.Manage Research Proposal Development and Approval Consult with colleagues and applicable stakeholders to: Support development of research proposal or project scope statements and approval process Ensure alignment and understanding of proposal/project scope and objectives with the organization's strategic objectives and research priorities Ensure that all project requirements, deliverables and success criteria are identified Ensure project scope, requirements and approvals comply with topic and data governance guidelines and methodology Identify all impacted areas and project dependencies/linkages (software, licensing, contracts/NDAs) are identified and ensure that appropriate resources are engaged to address scope-related gaps and issues Work with legal and data partners to identify and execute necessary contracts for project initiation, maintenance, and completionMonitor/Support Research Project Lifecycle, Timelines, and Resources Monitor project scope and objectives to identify/prioritize risks/issues and report progress throughout the project life cycle, as needed (eg, revised scope definition, scope creep) Implement processes to drive effective project execution (eg, launch, deployment, revisions, change control) Identify project duration, effort, sequence, and dependencies of tasks required to meet applicable project objectives Develop, maintain, and distribute detailed project plans (including resource assignments, schedules, dependencies, etc.) and roles/responsibilities Work with resource managers to drive the identification of the skills, duration and effort required for successful project execution (eg, resource demand planning) Ensure that resources are acquired to meet project requirements, escalating for assistance where gaps exist Align resource requests with available funding and forecasted FTE allocations, identifying gaps for escalated resolution Develop, document and implement appropriate communications tools/techniques to ensure understanding and buy-in from applicable stakeholders (eg, project status, metrics, outcomes, executive summaries, key milestones) Communicate project risk/issue events, responses and results to applicable stakeholders (eg, project team, leadership, business partners) Analyze and ensure resolution of identified risks and issues, collaborating with and obtaining approvals from applicable stakeholders as needed Obtain agreement from applicable stakeholders on schedule, time management, and resource plans, and negotiate changes/adjust project plans as needed Ensure that all project deliverables are on track throughout the project lifecycle, and take appropriate action when needed Ensure that schedule and resource changes are aligned with project scope, objectives, constraints, and risks Establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with applicable project stakeholders (eg, project team members, team leads, internal customers, functional SMEs, business partners, leadership) Manage vendor relationships and/or obtain required contract approvals, as neededManage and Leverage Data Assets for Research Use business intelligence, data visualization, query, analytic and statistical software (eg, SAS; STATA; SQL) to build solutions, perform analysis, integrate data to analyze findings and interpret results Support descriptive and regression-based analytics and leverage subject matter expert views in the design of their analytics and algorithms Collaborate with internal and/or external stakeholders to redesign and/or modify original research plans based on initial findings and results Review results of analyses to assess the validity of findings (eg, identify outliers or unusual trends) Support researchers in interpreting trends and analyses to draw relevant conclusions Collaborate with project team on impact (eg, financial; security; safety; legal) of research findings to internal and/or external stakeholders in order to identify potential next step actions or strategies Partner with stakeholders to understand data requirements and develop tools and models such as segmentation, dashboards, data visualizations, decision aids and business case analysis to support the organization Manage data assets, including regular data refreshes, additions of external data sources as needed, and access to the data environment Triage appropriately or help answer data related questions or technical/software related issues Understand high-level attributes of different data assets and recognize the pros and cons of proposed analysis using respective data Communicate statuses and delays related to data management and access that impact project timelines and/or scope Ensure seamless transition upon project completion to the business partners (eg, policy team, marketing and communications, UHC leadership)You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in MIS, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Health Policy, Business or a related field 4+ years of experience performing significant data analysis and report development, with knowledge of at least 1 programming language for statistical analysis (eg SAS, R, STATA) 3+ years of experience working in healthcare Intermediate level of programming knowledge and of relational databases, database structures and design, systems design, data management, data warehouse. Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint 3+ years of experience with documenting processes and practices, while effectively prioritizing multiple tasks, priorities, projects, and deadlines If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (ie, entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener.
