Fire Safety Technician

The George Mason University Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS), within the Department of Safety, Emergency, and Enterprise Risk Management, along with the Division of University Life, is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for the position of Fire Safety Technician. Responsibilities: The Fire Safety Technician will assist Environmental Health and Safety Fire Inspectors in the testing and certification of fire safety equipment to include fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, commercial cooking hood systems, and fire alarms. Work to be performed does not require special certifications. This position will be required to escort and assist contractors on campus during testing of fire safety equipment.

Required Qualifications: * High School Diploma, or equivalent; * Ability to maintain accurate inventories of fire safety equipment; * Knowledge of safety related terminology; * Ability to self-motivate and complete tasks without supervision; * Ability to maintain accurate and organized records of tests and inspections of fire safety equipment; * Ability to communicate with staff and faculty with all levels of education; * Ability to work as part of a cooperative team to solve safety issues; * Valid drivers license; * Ability to lift 40 lbs., bend, crawl and kneel; * Ability to walk and stand for extended hours; * Ability to work after hours and varying hours, when needed; * Must pass background check.

Preferred Qualifications: * Certification in CPR and First Aid; * Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, data bases and experience working with Microsoft Office; * Post-Secondary education; * Experience in an institution of higher education.
