Usher, Hylton Performing Arts Center

The George Mason University Hylton Performing Arts Center, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Usher (front of house staff). About the Center: The Hylton Performing Arts Center opened in May of 2010, and is the region's first state-of-the-art performing arts center. The partnership with Prince William County, the city of Manassas, and George Mason University has created a project that will educate, entertain and enrich the lives of our citizens. The Center provides performance space for local community arts groups, as well as national and international tours which will include everything from Beethoven to Bluegrass (and everything in between). Located on the Science and Technology (formerly Prince William) campus in Manassas, Va., the Center has two performance spaces--the 1,166-seat Merchant Hall and the 300-flexible seat Gregory Family Theatre. In addition, the 9,000 square-foot Didlake Grand Foyer provides event space in western Prince William County for receptions up to 600 people and seated dinners for nearly 300.

About the Position: The Front of House Staff members are the face of the Center. They have direct contact with our patrons. Ushers provide exemplary customer service to every patron entering one of our venues. Our Ushers are responsible for creating a courteous welcoming environment, and providing directions and answers to patrons inquiries. Each Usher may work in a variety of positions ranging from greeter, ticket-taker, and usher to security. Each Usher is expected to arrive dressed for work at the scheduled start time.

Responsibilities: * Provide high-level customer service to all Hylton Performing Arts Center patrons and community partners; * Adhere to established Front of House procedures to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our guests.

Required Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience; Juniors and seniors in high school are also encouraged to apply and are accepted on a limited basis; * Excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal skills; * Understanding of and appreciation for the performing arts.
