The George Mason University, College of Health & Human Services invites applications for the Information Technology Specialist II position. About the College: The College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University includes five academic departments including Global and Community Health; Health Administration, Policy and Informatics; Nutrition and Food Studies; Rehabilitation Science; Social Work, which field a variety of nationally-ranked graduate and undergraduate programs (BS through PhD); and one school, Nursing. The College has recently opened its Population Health Center, which is a state-of-the-art clinical and research facility, while offering professional development opportunities. The College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate and 1,136 graduate students and approximately 140 faculty and staff. The College is currently transitioning to become a college of public health. About the Position: As part of the CHHS Information Technology and Security Team (Infosec), the incumbent will provide technology support (applications, databases, software, hardware, servers, desktops, and laptop devices) to CHHS Population Health Clinic (PHC), Center for Discovery Science and Health Informatics (DSHI), faculty, staff, and students. The support includes GMU applications and troubleshooting, video-conferencing support, custom application support, technical support, and research technology as well as database management (design and maintenance). The incumbent will report to the CHHS Director of IT and Security, work closely with DSHI Director and System Administrator, and work with CHHS and Mason IT Support.

Responsibilities: * Administration of the college server infrastructure (Linux and Windows); * Development of databases and queries for academic data management and research; * Support of GMU applications and troubleshooting, video-conferencing support, custom application support, technical support, and research technology as well as database management (design and maintenance); * Software and hardware equipment inventory checks on an annual basis as well as provide technical assistance to PHC (including OpenEMR), Nursing Labs, CCTV, and support the acquisition of future technology.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Demonstrated technical expertise in software installation, configuration and maintenance; * Demonstrated hands-on technical knowledge with Microsoft, Mac, and Linux; * Experience in installing, configuring and maintaining server and desktop software; * Experience in Linux and Windows administration; * Knowledge and use of computer programming languages (i.e., PHP, Python, Java, R, etc.); * Strong written and oral communication skills; * Experience in providing technical support for PC and Mac platforms; * Ability to work independently, but also participate productively as a team player; * Orientation to meeting or exceeding customer service expectations; * Demonstrated proficiency in commonly used software products [e.g., Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other office productivity products, etc.] and ability to instruct staff in the essential use of the software or applications; * Extensive, successful experience interacting with both co-workers and staff, resulting in high-quality technical support; * Demonstrated ability to analyze hardware and software problems, and interface with manufacturer's technical support staff to affect a solution. Ability to research and solve unusual problems; * Knowledge virtual machines, Linux and windows operating systems.

Preferred Qualification: * Programming language certification (i.e., PHP, Python, Java, etc.); * Understanding of application support health and research applications; * Experience using remote support tools to assist staff with technical problems; * Understanding of the structure and purpose of health data, including health service, public health and clinical data; * RedHat Certification; * Microsoft Certification; * Knowledge of healthcare security policies, including HIPAA.
